Assessment Scheduling Improvements
My Commitment
If elected to the Student Council, I will advocate for better scheduling of assessments, especially for ATAR students to ensure less burden on our cohort and all students at the college.
Additionally, I will try to ensure that the week before the Exam Study Week (called an Assessment Free Week) dosen’t cram 5-6 assessments causing us stress.
The college assessment policy informs students that the Senior Leaders “meet in Term 4 prior to the new year” to limit the number of assessments scheduled on one day to two.
But last year, there were multiple instances where this limit was exceeded.
When this was brought to Lachie and I’s attention, I sent an email to my Classroom Teacher, and 2IC of the Maths Department - Ms. Dallimore kindly requesting to move this assessment. This resulted in the Assessment being moved to the following Wednesday (from the Friday the week before) allowing all Year 10 (at the time) Mathematics an extra weekend to prepare for the assessment.
Also, this year, the week before our “Assessment Free Week” almost every single ATAR Class had an assessment - meaning that some students had up to 6 assessments in this week.
Obviously this wasn't intentionally to cause students stress, it was just miscommunication.
Email to Ms. Dallimore (2IC - Math at the time) which resulted in the assessment being moved.
