About Me
Hi, I’m Matt. I’m currently a Year 10 student at John Curtin College of the Arts, and I’m proud to be part of the Drama Gifted and Talented program.
I am using this website as a platform to advocate for student voices, even though I am not a student councillor, that does not mean I wont fight for my peers.
Through my experience across the years engaging with college staff and executives, along with my Father’s experience on the John Curtin College of the Arts Board and P&C Association, along with my Mother’s experience working for the education department, I have gained insight on how to actually get things done.
Unlike our current student councillors, I am in a position where my parents positions and experience, along with my extensive knowledge of the college’s inner workings, allows me to take things to the right place, and see changes made.
In 2025 I’ve already championed a few successful initiatives around the college. For example, I secured a five-day extension on Test 4 in Maths for all Year 10 students by raising with the Director of Mathematics that the original assessment date didn’t follow the college’s Assessment Policy (Section 1.2 – Assessment Scheduling), which says students shouldn’t have to sit more than two assessments in one day.
Once again, I achieved the same outcome for Maths Test 5, having it moved from the day of our two science tests to two days later. This outcome allowed us as a cohort extra time to prepare, and ensure fair assessment conditions for everyone. I have also worked to champion student led initiatives, such as the removal of proposed timetable changes in 2026, which would have seen us finish school at 3.25pm from Monday-Wednesday, which will no longer go ahead.
Above all, I am committed to living the college values of curiosity, courage, and connection, and carrying forward the college priorities of kindness, growth and cognition. These aren’t just words to me, they’re qualities I understand and try to show in my daily life at the college.
